Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Fes, climbing into the cool air of the Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane, Morocco’s “Little Switzerland,” known for its alpine architecture. We then journey to the ancient cedar forests of Azrou, where you can observe the native Barbary macaque monkeys in their natural habitat. The landscape dramatically transforms as we descend into the vast Ziz Valley, a stunning oasis of millions of palm trees. Your day concludes as you arrive in Merzouga, settling into a beautiful riad at the edge of the immense, golden Erg Chebbi dunes.
Today is dedicated to immersing yourself in the magic of the Sahara. We’ll begin by visiting the village of Khamlia to experience the hypnotic rhythms of Gnawa music, a spiritual art form with deep historical roots. Next, we venture off-road to discover the abandoned mining village of M’Fis and share a cup of mint tea with a nomadic family, gaining rare insight into their resilient, traditional lifestyle.
In the late afternoon, your camel caravan awaits. You’ll embark on an unforgettable trek across the breathtaking Erg Chebbi dunes. We’ll pause atop a high dune to witness a spectacular Saharan sunset and try sandboarding. Your destination is a secluded desert camp, where a traditional dinner is served. The evening ends around a campfire, listening to Berber drum music under a canopy of brilliant stars.
An early rise is rewarded with a breathtaking desert sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, we bid farewell to the Sahara and journey westward. Our first stop is Rissani, the ancient heart of the region. If it’s a market day (Tues, Thurs, or Sun), you’ll have the chance to explore its vibrant, traditional souk. We then proceed to the Todra Gorge, where you can walk between its towering 300-meter-high rock walls. The journey continues to the Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic, winding roads and “monkey fingers” rock formations. You’ll settle in for the night at a hotel nestled within the stunning Dades Gorge.
After breakfast, our final day takes us along the legendary “Road of 1000 Kasbahs” towards Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, you’ll see the Atlas Film Studios from the outside. The highlight is a visit to the magnificent Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and an iconic fortified village that has served as a backdrop for films like Gladiator and the series Game of Thrones.
After lunch, we begin the spectacular ascent into the High Atlas Mountains. The road twists and turns through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and Berber villages. As we descend from the mountains, the vibrant energy of Marrakech welcomes you. We will drop you off at your accommodation, concluding your unforgettable Moroccan odyssey.
